So who’s going to invest in the startups that Indie, TinySeed, and Earnest simply don’t have the capacity for?

Whether these funds in particular are incentivized to prove this asset class differs from traditional venture will depend a lot (entirely?) on the expectations they set with their LP’s. So I wouldn’t be surprised if these funds are transitional forms in the evolutionary sense.

Patrick, I run a community of technology companies in miami (75% size of chicago), and I think there is closer to 2500 saas in Chicago. Few companies are run by less than 10 people here.

One of my moderately strongly held beliefs about working for the Internet is that it’s harder to escape the gravitational pull of AppAmaGooBookSoft (and employers competing with them) in the hubs but that if you’re in the boonies you might have to make a job to have a tech job.
