Chase Sapphire Reserve bumping annual fee by $100 a year. Interestingly, balancing it with promotions from Doordash and Lyft.pic.twitter.com/2Cd1HUmeHr

Should current card holders switch or keep it?

*shrug* Math problem but not a very hard math problem. If one is in the target market for the card, one still is; if one signed up for the free points, one will probably still cancel. Really curious at the business strategy behind this decision.

This is my project for the weekend, but this changes the landscape of chase vs Amex a bit in terms of loyalty card stacks. FWIW, so curious how stripe cards develop across free/premium on personal/business verticals.

CSR's biggest benefit has been no lock-in benefits. This provides platform specific benefits which doesn't appeal to the broader base

are you going to downgrade? Not feeling good about this.

Personally? No; the Lyft benefit is extremely material for me (back-of-envelope math is about $500 a year) and given my family’s annual travel spend the CSR would still be a bargain even at $100 more.

I’ll definitely be downgrading. Absolutely not worth it for me, plus a handful of Priority Pass lounges and benefits no longer exist in the airports I travel to

Seems like a combo of direct response to year ago Amex $100 fee increase with Uber rewards, and they have banking relationships with doordash and Lyft. I’ll definitely drop one of the cards now, only thing making me lean Amex is Delta lounge access

I've heard it's because they're underwriting DoorDash's IPO so stand to benefit from better numbers. Do they own shares in Lyft?

Pretty sure JPMorgan was an underwriter for Lyft, too.
