I think one should actually be optimistic about this, especially if you think the binding constraint on creating good things is less money or intelligence and more “enthusiastic co-conspirators.”https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1217132813654331394 …

Yes, Twitter is wildly unrepresentative of the real world. You can find 1000 people here who agree with you on anything. But, those 1000 people can group together and then change the real world. Twitter is not yet real life, but it will be.

Fully acknowledged that this is not the brand of Twitter tribes but that is largely because Twitter tribes that view this generation’s version of forum raids as a core activity will tend to be much more visible than the ones who optimize for other goals.

(At the risk of getting close to a reason to not hold Twitter close, it will be interesting times once someone realizes that “Hmm Twitter organizing can root non Twitter organizations... and we use that to get people fired? Why? That’s like the 103rd most interesting thing.”)

Love “enthusiastic co-conspirators” and “forum raids as a core activity”’- great writing and concepts in these two tweets.

Imagine how delighted Timothy Leary would have been by the Internet, and by Twitter, and Reddit, etc. Who was Timothy Leary? He was the one who said “find the others.”https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/514216-admit-it-you-aren-t-like-them-you-re-not-even-close …

Intelligence is distributed uniformly enough, money is a trailing indicator. Smart Young people banding together to distribute risk is def the way forward, given that marriage is no longer in vogue. Millennials need a better form of risk distribution other than spouses

People were optimistic about this at the start of the Arab spring. Then governments and oligarchs started to realize that fake Twitter movements can be just as effective. Also that mobs like brutality and harassment as a politics.
