(And because the healthiest retail locations are the ones with backends to the transaction and cell phone stores are effectively financial institutions for this purpose.)
(Backends here means “you get economics incident to the initial sale”, which some but not all cell phone retailers will receive. Term of art in that industry might be “residuals”; low confidence as this isn’t exactly my thing.)
The Blockbusters I've been to were bigger than the cell phone stores I've been to, as I recall. Though maybe there's a bias of relative sizing going on there. Or Blockbusters in areas with more expensive real estate were smaller.
True but location location location; the cell phone stores are *such better* uses of space that they can waste a bit on square footage to optimize for placement.
Rogers in Canada owned Rogers Video (blockbuster basically), which has basically been turned into cellphone stores. First they were shared and then they just stopped selling videos and converted them all to cell stores. I think some closed, but basically yeah
