Accepted wisdom of 'writing on the internet' is to keep your posts short and tightly edited, but for me it's always been the 10,000+ word mega posts, that get shared for years and considered the definitive piece on a topic, that has moved my career forward

Ditto. Partially I think the typical advice is informed by the relative difficulty of writing 10k words of substance, the economics of per-pageview reading being assumed even when irrelevant, and the difficulty of engagement hacking one’s way to Best Essay On This Topic status.
