The Kindle is the worst designed product that I can’t live without, and I have often thought that it was made in a vaccuum by people who, and I do not mean this as a judgment I mean it as description, do not read books.https://twitter.com/amyhoy/status/1213178482567475200 …

Don't get me started with their highlights and notes feature. Without an API/export it's basically useless.

Would you guys be up for talking with us at
@holloway about how we can make sure not to make the same mistakes with our reader? - 2 more replies

I think this thread ties to a frustration I have with audio books, and now feels like a larger amazon thing...which is getting stuck with an MVP experience and not trying to innovate.
-
Kindle gets some more features year to year, but really the experience is largely the same. Audio books work, but frankly aren't much more advanced than books on tape. Amazon could do a lot to enhance book consumption/learning.

The recommendations they show are also bafflingly bad, all the more so given that Amazon is usually decent at this. For the last time, just because I bought the Kindle in Berlin does not mean that I want to read pulp romance novels in German!

No one writing software appears to have read even the basics like How to Read a Book

I’ve been thinking about how the HtraB techniques could be augmented with software. Hopefully I’ll launch a site one of these years...

that'll get easier once you put all your highlights into
@RoamResearch :) I'd _love_ to roam through a DB of your annotated reading on your interests there...Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

And there’s SO many opportunities for cool features highlight sharing, notes sharing, book lending, the store UI!

IMO, ORG structure and extreme emphasis on operational efficiency; while successful and necessary for the scale/scope at which this company operates sacrifices design of almost any of their non deeply technical products (Website, Prime Video, Kindle, AWS console is better now)
