I am effectively the family comptroller and so run this meeting, although it isn’t timeboxed to a meeting (probably should). Big discussions are The List (predictable discretionary expenses), liquidity needs, and whether the month-to-month payment should change.

(My wife runs the Japan-side household expenses for e.g. groceries and gets a predictable amount for that every month; we adjust based on availability, new needs like kids’ activities, etc.)

I intentionally don’t do backwards-looking comparison against budget both because I think budgeting tends to set couples up for failure and because there is a poor return on budgeting brainsweat relative to e.g. work.
