Heuristic I’ve developed that I‘m slow to execute on: - If someone replies something weird (usually oddly passive aggressive) - I have zero mutuals with them - their timeline is mostly politics (any country) - they follow over 2000 people It’s usually best to soft-block them

That is a good point. And blocking isn’t just a constant reminder of that potential message, it can persistently screw up the user experience with broken tweet threads* if the blocked follows mutuals of the blocker. *They might have fixed this, I haven’t noticed it in a while.
