Flu shots seem to be a relatively good experience from a healthcare payments perspective, even in the US. Walgreens: "It's probably free with your insurance." Me: "Cash payer." "In that case it is $40.99." "Done." Out in ~5 minutes.

In the UK medical providers literally compete to give out flu shots as they get paid by the government for them (and why not? When you have a single payer a lot more effort goes into prevention!).

A day is optimistic if you're unlucky enough to get hit, too. I also suspect you derive utility from knowing you are helping others who can't themselves receive the shot.

A probabilistic day. If you prevent one bout of influenza every ten or twenty years, you're avoiding about one day of flu per annual flu shot.
