One of the reasons hubs have hublike talent market dynamics is that career histories which trivially pass a resume screen tend to get geographically concentrated. It will be really interesting seeing where that ends up in a few more years.

As always, reporting but not endorsing with respect to how resume screens are typically conducted at tech companies. I wish they could be wholesale replaced with a work sample test available to any comer, yesterday.

I'm super curious if it's possible to build as robust a network without being right next to your coworkers. In the same sense that all long-distance relationships tend to be strained, I'm skeptical that you can ever build strong, personal connections in a work context from afar.

Agree with this slingshot pattern. I lived in Seattle for 18 years working for tier 1 tech companies then moved to my home town in Oregon last year. Best thing we ever did. Feel like my network and employment history will let me work for anyone from here.
