"No really, what is your process." I mull a topic in my head for between one day and a few weeks, verbalize half-formed thoughts out loud (disturbing passerby and/or my wife), then one day get coffee, write like a man possessed for 6~12 hours, two editing passes, publish.

What seems to be harder is getting feedback that I can calibrate with. Friends who are good at editing can help a bit, but so few people ask enough questions that I'm going off pure intuition when deciding what's safe to assume and what parts need to be explained.

When reflecting on my habits, I realize I've always liked the idea of being a writer more than the act of writing itself. Having said that, I've also recently run into the idea of repeating a process at volume to improve over time, specifically regarding language learning.

I'd taken Chinese classes for years and never really gotten anywhere. I started taking 1:1 online language tutoring classes around mid-March this year and have made greater strides in this time frame than the past 3 years. That includes all of 2018, all of which I lived in China
