It would be really nice to have a digital system that is more automated. I thing something about "I have free food here 3 days a week" feels/sounds better than "I need to eat here 10 times to *earn* a meal" also.

Always thought there was a good business opportunity for this crossed with an Amazon bookstore. Pay to get in, enjoyba book. Like it? Walk out with it, bills you Amazon price + x automatically, Amazon immediately sends a replacement.
Fwiw, other countries (according to my father) have a version this. Not unlimited subscription, but like 1 meal a day for a month. Meal would vary based on what house did that day (ie, daily special). And Muscle Maker Grill has a Meal Plan bulk discount thing along same lines.
