This sort of misprediction of impact is a bit of a pattern in my experience, so much so that to counteract it I ask questions about toolchains and composability when looking at things.

Yes! I like to think of it is as: X composing well means it's being a good participant in an ecosystem, which everyone can benefit from. OTOH Walled Gardens are like airports: can't bring your power-tools in. Also, "it's better to have 100 functions operate on 1 data structure"
