People respond to incentives. That said I often think tech folk misunderstand the incentives that drive most actual reporters as opposed to executives.

Oh yeah, your average journalist isn't necessarily fully conscious of the ins and outs of their business model. And there's the news/advertising wall, etc. But at the macro level they are well aware that tech has eaten away at their advertisers and influence.pic.twitter.com/tMN2ogxeVH

Legacy media had two advantages pre-social media - distribution - credibility Both gone. Tech only removed one.
