Me doing routine thing with Japanese financial institution over the phone, 5 minutes in: Operator: "Wait wait wait you sound like the kind of person who is probably computer savvy." Me: "*polite nothings* Operator: "In that case, you could do this on a website."

I love these stories. And somehow you have more “doings with financial institutions“ than any other person on the internet

Weird hobbies, relatively high financial literacy, a living situation that throws a lot of exceptions on both sides of Pacific, keen appreciation for things many would find boring, and now a job which exposes me to even more of it.

I phoned my financial institution today because I couldn't figure out how to find some information on the website. They guided me through it, but I'm baffled as to how anybody thought that was reasonable place to put it.

A: "Let's reorganize the website to make it more intuitive for retail users!" B: "That'll require hundreds of hours of work from engineers making $100k. Let's just hire a room full of support operators making $10/h to tell users where shit is."
