The wonderful, terrible thing about having written the canonical article about salary negotiation is that every day people read it and apply its advice. That's a really, really annoying car to be racing against for impact. "What have you done *lately*?" https://www.kalzumeus.com/2012/01/23/salary-negotiation/ …

This is great! Privacy concerns are prohibitive, but it would be *so* great to compile a collection of the [three sentence email] and the “Yeah, we can increase to $_______” responses. Asking is easier than people think
-
Better yet, how about real transparency and equal pay for equal work?

How to you manage responding to these negotiations while also maintaining equal pay for equal work across your org?
-
Isn’t “equal pay for equal work” often code for “let’s keep comp right where it is”? It’s the common response when new hires, untethered and negotiating with full awareness of the current market, ask for a certain number. “This number isn’t fair to long-time employees.”

I've read it and it totally changed my perspective. My bosse hates me, though.

its fine and dandy - IF you are confident enough you can get another offer or have multiple offers. Many people cant get a job and they are not going to negotiate. Many people start looking for a job when they are miserable to the point where their self esteem is below zero.Same.
