One rather interestingly sent me a link to a YouTube video, produced at approximately “I got some good advice on shooting video at home” level, where she narrates a monthly housing report for Chicago and adds some color commentary.

“What’s it do?” Builds differentiation *for money*. Who would you take the mortgage from, J. Random from BigBank or the person who you’ve listened narrate the trends in your market for several hours over 9 months. I boggle at the ROI in creating the perception of expertise.

I suspect it has something to do with real estate folks being significantly more drawn from the ranks of normal people, rather than the weirder subset of tech and tech-adjacent people.

My accountant does this with her weekly newsletter with articles like "The marriage penalty is alive and well" and "A smarter college housing option." Googled excerpts show up all over the web. Most of her clients probably don't know/care, and it makes her look like a true guru.
