In 2007 when I first moved to the Bay Area, almost everyone was working on communications/social/sharing apps. In the first few batches of YCombinator, I remember it was ~80% consumer apps. Where have all those entrepreneurs gone?

Depends on whether you mean that cohort or “the similar entrepreneurs coming up in 2019” I think. I imagine much of the cohort is currently mid-career at AppAmaGooBookSoft or larger startups/VC firms/etc. Similar ones in SaaS/crypto (*crying inside*)/fintech/enterprise.

In part I think it’s a good thing, because my perception is a bit of the preference for consumer was “well there’s no barrier to entry there; you just win on product quality et al” and entrepreneurs have come to understand relative to GTM barriers in e.g. fintech are... tractable
