An interesting business problem I’m facing: How to do sales with *zero* public marketing, and very minimal/secure private marketing. We’ve never done mass marketing but still relied heavily on public presence. I think I’ve got to step up the traveling and 1:1 in person chats.

In the alternative use the platform you already have to promote something you can talk about (e.g. an event in a format/location easy for you to deliver) and then have a closed session at it, optionally with some level of ceremony about non-disclosure.

e.g. Could you invite interested folks to a one-day Trends In Web Content Delivery conference, see who signs up, and pick the most interesting eight and say “Hey I have something relevant to your interests. Do you have 15 minutes to chat?” (You could even ask for an NDA.)

Does this method work for job applications!?

It can. Managers are often happy to take coffee meetings on about this level of promise. Actually if you're credible in their field managers will nearly *always* take coffee meetings.
