A lot of this is really “software creates software-related busywork”. Before ETLs and email, there was probably one marketing team doing that job in one location; then it became 2 teams (mktg & IT) then 3 across 2 timezones (mktg, IT, cheap-IT), all because software.

You’re not wrong, but the cron job doesn’t seem to do anything to solve the two human problems described there: 1) Marketing team wants to manually reach out to 70% of unsubscribers 2) Software developers aren’t trusted to do anything that affects customer data
