Curious how much nibbling there seems to be around Google's products, specifically, because they seem to have minimal ability to ship a v2. I wonder how long it takes before someone funds a search engine for software developers (or etc) just because the variance is high enough.

Agreed. I think Google Apps is stuck in limbo between "measly 100m" and "golden goose #2". A resource allocation problem, maybe? Apple has the same problem IMO - they're incapable of adding basic features to their apps, like iCloud, that have 9-10 figure rev potential.

Yes but within the category of appamafacegoosoft, there's Amazon>AWS. Windows>Office. Mac>iTunes>iPhone. Google and Facebook have only been able to acquire eg Youtube and Instagram, but, Facebook is 10 years younger than Google, too.
