Question for thoughtful investors here: any pro tips or landmines for diligencing investments that specifically target a market that you culturally or otherwise does not include you?

ie me (white, cisgender, man, no kids) evaluating hypothetically "razors for black men","app for pregnant women","product for teen girls", etc. What extra steps do you take to make up for your lack of gut sense of whether the product is...good.

Speaking as the guy whose target customer was a 55 year old non-technical woman when he was none of that: talk to the user, compare against substitutes (e.g. the status quo solution), watch them actually use it (if possible), and listen very carefully to language used.

before you had a decent sized customer base to ask, and you had a product question, how would go find and talk to more potential consumers of bingo card creation? Hang out in teacher forums?

A bit of “I am related to lots” and a bit of “I was in the middle of Japan surrounded by very very bored English teachers who functionally could not talk to anyone other than me”
