Going forward I think you’ll see more stables (MCU, Shonen Jump, etc) / incubators and less franchises which are reliant on a single tent pole character, because in a world of infinite choice why would you pick the same hero your entire generation picked, and higher spikes b/c

I think this is an artifact that the job to be done of a license is to maintain pricing power for children’s clothing and other necessary consumables.

Happy accidents, not quite first mover advantage in video game consoles acting as an infection vector, a huge protected domestic market (demand and talent side), and a bit of government policy. For similar reasons I suspect my kids will love a character from China, eventually.
