I think this device was literally used in Snow Crash (receive a last name when you gain an organizational affiliation on employment e.g. John FBI) but I might be misremembering the book.

I know real estate agents using Facebook very well. It’s a good de facto CRM tool. They aren’t generally techie, but they’re effective at connecting with people.

Where I live some real estate agents use Fb groups in very innovative ways. They keep closed groups where they list properties and have a system in which you're only invited in after an expressed intention to rent/buy.

This is also very common in other countries e.g. India where Whatsapp is a majority. Up to the point Facebook implemented click-to-messenger and Click-to-whatsapp ads
