I heart the copywriter who snuck this into the normally comatose-inducing terms and conditions of the Chipotle gift card: "It cannot be used to purchase other Chipotle gift cards, because that's like wishing for more wishes."

You need to write that because Legal has some concerns about your gift cards potentially being used for money laundering and feels the need to announce this to everyone given opportunity to buy it, but given that you need to write that, might as well write it with some style.

Where do gift card buying services(e.g cardpool, cardcash, etc) fit in regarding money laundering? KYC? Reporting? On the surface it looks like they provide liquidity where buying cards w/ cards just muddles sources.

Tough business to be in and I respect the heck out of the folks who make it work. Overwhelmingly, their biggest operational problem is Extremely Attractive Fraud Target. Required KYC for gift cards is minimal to my understanding (they have a specific carve-out in many regs).

(As always: I am not a lawyer, check with your lawyer prior to acting on anything I say, make sure you understand difference between open loop and closed loop if you're very interested in this industry, etc.)
