Random unsolicited endorsement: http://getethos.com was willing to write a $1 million term life insurance policy at a reasonable rate without requiring a medical exam or more than about 12 minutes of attention (over 3 days).

It’s really much more complex. Death has the advantage of being unambiguous and hard to fake. I just bought $10K/mo disability coverage until age 67 for $2.5K/yr premium, and I am surprised by the broadness of coverage. But it’s very specific to the profession being covered.

Think you could save me a few steps and let me know what company you went through? I bet our professions are close enough and I would love that deal.

http://PolicyGenius.com makes it pretty simple. Especially good content marketing/education and making it easy to get quotes. Some parts of process could still be streamlined though.

Yep, I used PolicyGenius to find my disability insurance & I recommend them. Still, very different from what
@patio11 described with http://getethos.com . I still had to do a medical exam, go through all my medical history, over 2hrs of
interviews, & took ~3mo to underwrite - 1 more reply

Critical lllness Cover (as its called in the UK) is quite well established in a few parts of the world. It's at least an order of magnitude more expensive than life insurance though. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_illness_insurance …

My US disability insurance also has a list of predefined illnesses that immediately trigger the benefits. But then it goes way broader, and supposedly covers any illness that causes any loss of income while exercising my profession.
