Thoughts/ideas request: given someone of average ability level and a generalist undergrad education, what would be the optimal pathway to maximise earnings over a 10-year horizon? Maximise for earnings - no attention paid to fit, job satisfaction, morality, or anything else.

I am part of those who thought you were definitely joking on that one. Would you mind giving a little more details about how you estimate that number ? I know variance can get crazy in these estimations, but maybe choose fixed plausible key factors and explain it that scenario

Google et al are incentivized to make this opaque if one is not in the know and relatively less opaque once one is inside the circle of trust. One mechanism for that is the "levels" (career track). The question "What is a plausible comp package for an L6 or L7?" has an answer.

You’re not, I can confirm from my own sources and my own experience hiring people. 300k$ after 10 years at those places is likely quite below average. But note that it relies a lot on stocks, and I am not sure the next 10 years will be as kind as the last for those companies
