Step 1: Exciting popular news video is proved to be deepfake. Step 2: Somebody else defends the deepfake by saying the depicted events probably did happen, though. Step 3: News stories full of "depictions" of events the news outlet thinks probably happened.

Remember CBC’s fake-but-accurate defense of the forged typewritten memo purportedly substantiating Bush draft dodging? Which was, uncannily, typographically reproducible on default settings of MSWord? Even their investigation refused to conclude falsehood.
