Always tough to guess underwriting policies from outside the building but I think that increasingly good, integrated IT systems and faster decision loops is causing some banks to try to get cozier with some customers than previously.

One of them wanted to send me a text message on a US number, knowing that I was not in the US. They already had my SSN and I was logged into their online portal. It was more mystifying than frustrating -- what's so magical about a domestic SMS?
