Question from a founder: What salary do you recommend for a founder in SF who has dependants? (wife+one kid) Not "enough" but please concrete number. Pre product-market-fit. Raising their first round. Rest of founding team in Latin America.

With my investor hat on, if a founder told me "I'm proposing a salary of $150k plus benefits because..." I'd say "Yes, done." and if they started talking about dependents I'd say "Shh! Never bring that into a salary discussion ever again. You're responsible for this now."

Peanut gallery: It is illegal in the United States and the state of California to condition a salary offer on any of a variety of protected characteristics, including family structure or status.

And while you're probably not going to file a complaint about that one time a company controlled discriminated against your family structure when their CEO (you) noted it in a discussion, start making good habits on this early.
