      My favorite is basically invariably written like this: ノミ行為; nomi is 蚤 but most people can't write that on demand. The literal translation is "tick-like conduct." What it actually means:

      (Explanation for peanut gallery: A "bucket shop" is an illegal and extremely seedy type of financial institution which purports to take customers' money to establish a position, but which does buy the underlying, and treats all customer positions only as accounting entries.)

          Interestingly while the English-language internet might worry that e.g. a cryptocurrency exchange is "insolvent" [0] the Japanese-language internet tends to spend a lot more words on ノミ行為, because it's rife in retail-facing FX, particularly the abusive kind. [0] sic, mostly

          in US late 19 early 20th century most bucket shops didn’t purport to being anything other than a bucket shop
