We all know founders wear many hats— both Rich and I do a bit of everything. But when working with big corps, it’s inevitable that they try to categorize my role, and it seems “product manager” is common. I know tech & help decide product direction but have leaned toward business

I never knew that was a thing till after I started the business. It’s kinda cool that you can get a normal full time job at a big company doing this kind of work.

Really!? Would you recommend engineering management or PM as the way forward for senior engineer / tech lead? No big co experience though, and the said engineer sees themselves as an introvert, but can muster up decent social energy when necessary.

I'd hope that there was a career path for them to have incredible impact as a senior engineer w/o requiring transition to engineering management or PM, which are both different skill sets than being a senior engineering IC, which has several flavors/specialities available.

(Worth noting that I'm a senior IC at Stripe and no flavor of manager nor a PM, nor an engineer for that matter, and that "senior IC on X" describes my quirky potpurri of interests a lot better than any of those would.)
