.@nytimes’ inability to recognize me on mobile coming from Twitter makes me murderous. This is not a new problem, but honestly, we can figure this out. How much more can we pay you to figure this out?

Ditto the WSJ. The thing I pay several hundred dollars a year for: not hitting the paywall. The thing that happens: hitting the paywall.

I want to read their reporting! I pay for the privilege. Why must they torture me?

The shared experience of reading the WSJ with my father many mornings was formative for me. It’s a cornerstone of our relationship and literally taught me to read. I do not see myself doing this with my kids, in part because it would involve starting my mornings with “}^{*# it!”

Webview on iOS is an entirely separate browser on your phone and it sucks compared to Safari or Chrome. But a simple regex can identify the user agent and probably redirect you to WSJ or NYT app if you have installed.

Fwiw apps have the choice to use SFSafariViewController, which uses the same renderer as regular Safari. Even shares cookies.
