A thought I've had a few times about Lambda School, as a father: "Hmm either I could pay for a child's education or I could pay for Lambda School, living expenses for a year, a one-year trip to any major world city, *and* $100k of seed funding to first startup/house/etc."

I see your point. I think your model of college cost is a bit off. 4 years, including living expenses, at a private lib arts school cost ~$25k out of pocket by my parents & ~$40k debt to me. Rack rate was like $180k+.

I expect that my model of college costs is not materially wrong and that I am insider trading on my children's likelihood of being offered need-based financial aid.

My eldest is almost 7, with a healthy college fund. I’ve no idea what it’s ultimately going to actually pay for.

I wonder if anyone at Lambda is thinking about how 529 plans work? That seems to me a massive hurdle in stakeholder alignment. (cc:

Yep, I’m hoping they get that sorted in the next 5-10 years. Good chance they’d get my money if so (but maybe will anyway!)

Funny, my technology clock is focused on self-driving cars. 10 years or less and my kiddos won't need to learn to drive.
