A thought I've had a few times about Lambda School, as a father: "Hmm either I could pay for a child's education or I could pay for Lambda School, living expenses for a year, a one-year trip to any major world city, *and* $100k of seed funding to first startup/house/etc."

I'm not sure I'll be able to get all relevant stakeholders over the social desirability hump of this, but Lambda has 15 years to win the argument for me, and they're on track to do it.

your kid could also go to university in a civilized country where college isnt a 100k debt proposition

A complicated topic but our family is Japanese and American; they'll be able to pick which country they'd like tertiary education in, but the quality of education one receives at a good American institution is *much* better than good Japanese undergrad.

The answer, if you have the luxury to afford it, is both. Go do liberal arts, expand your brain and curiosity, then do Lambda. That combination is unbeatable.

I've been told a lot that liberal arts is supposed to expand your brain and curiosity. As someone with a degree in it (in addition to engineering): it seems highly unlikely to be most efficient way to spend $100k+ on that goal.

tired: save $300k to send your kid to some shitty college for 4 years so she can get an entry-level job wired: invest $300k in startups then make one of them hire her inspired: lock her in her room until she has a good startup idea, then give her the $300k and take a board seat

In all seriousness, I right now have zero intention of sending my kid (currently 8 years old) to college. It's possible she'll turn 18 and really want to go, in which case she'll have a *lot* of convincing to do.

One possibly complication, after checking with my kids selecting colleges: they don't want to be programmers. (I love programming, and they know that.)

Pretty sure that in 15 years Lambda or Lambda-style schools won't be limited to programming. I mean they're already looking at nursing right now AFAIK
