I get the sense that we all pretend it's some sort of secret that "problem children" exist at both ends, but at least the other sort can be sent away for varying lengths of time

I read my own books quietly and loudly complained about "busywork" - and even got myself transferred out of such classes in high school. Spending 8th grade homeschooled gave me a greater sense of agency than I think the public school administration wanted me to have...
