Is there a backstory/context to this?

I wrote this: https://www.kalzumeus.com/2012/01/23/salary-negotiation/ … 500k people or so read it a year. About a hundred a year email me their results. Sometimes I ask to quote them on Twitter to keep banging the drum.

Well, don't leave us hanging! What was the email?

My correspondent didn't choose to share that, but I would put a high percentage on (approximately): "That offer sounds interesting. Can you do $10k more and nix [language from employment agreement]?"

I helped a teacher friend (notoriously underpaid) negotiate a $7k raise which was $5k more than the school said they were willing to bring ANY teachers in at. They were thrilled to get her. We basically copied-pasted bits of your salary negotiate article into an email.

That's awesome!

Haha, I thought this sounded familiar! Pretty sure the same engineer also used Fearless Salary Negotiation alongside your blog post, and reached out to say thanks. It always makes my day when someone reaches out to say thanks like that

* If you don't have bargaining power, approach negotiation with extreme caution. Ask if there's room to negotiate before posing a counter-offer. Or make an offer that is EXPLICITLY not a counter-offer to test the waters.
