I'm wondering what the "reward" should be for protecting your selfie, and what the game theoretic implications would be of a hoarded selfie being worth (e.g.) 5 points, but a selfie being distributed to 20 classmates being collectively worth 20 points (obvious barter opportunity)

I don't think you have to make betrayal incentive compatible, and I think that in fact that's a core thing to learn for the exercise.

What would the talk be? What incentive do they have to keep selfies private? What's the harm if others have their selfies?

They don't have an incentive, that's the point. The incentive is to swap selfies with everyone, because they'd almost never think not to share it.
