With due respect, if you consider knowing the name of numeral system you're using as "a bit of trivia", then your education system is in really bad place right now.

It’s both. If they were ignorant but not biased, then they wouldn’t default to “no, we shouldn’t teach that.” They would say “I don’t know.”
