Tyler Cowen on how the biggest change in daily life from tech in next 20 years will be due to improvements in cars: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2019-04-29/forget-robots-the-breakthrough-technology-will-be-in-your-car … I've got an alternate one and, forewarned, this is going to be aesthetically very unpleasant for some people:

Imo more likely are (self driving) trucks with built in specialized automated kitchens cooking food continuously while en route. Much higher route efficiency, fresher food, and shorter delivery times.
-
Ah. I would bet heavily, heavily against mobile automated kitchens being able to serve more than 5% of meals eaten in the US yesterday within next 50 years. Are you thinking cuisine preference changes radically to enable that to happen?

This is your worst take... 1) outside cities how would this work? Rural and suburbs will keep cooking 2) bubble affluence. - the easiest way to save on a budget is to make your own meals. $1/meal vs $10-40. 3) health factor - anyone caring about health knows cooking is better
-
Restaurants may have to charge $10 to $40 to make ends meet, but they have very different economics than industrial kitchens, and I think you can probably eventually get e.g. a plate of pasta down to $1 in 2019 dollars delivered.

Disagree. Culture is hard to change and there's a massive amount of culture in cooking.
-
I want to agree with you but then I look at the experience of organized religion in the US moving from hegemonic to materially-non-hegemonic faster than anyone would have believed possible.

For every reason you mention I’m surprised laundry is still a thing. Even easier to automate & less people enjoy it as an activity.
-
If I could just convince my wife on this we’d never do laundry again, laundry pickup and drop off already being a thing, but it’s a bridge too far for her.
