If you've got questions about this, we've got answers. Among other ways to get them: CEO @patrickc and CTO @dps are doing a remote coffee on May 22nd at 11 AM PST.https://stripe.events/remote-coffee

I recognize your username from HN. Good to see you here. I'm a Sr. FE Engineer, do you guys upskill for the Full stack positions? Is it worth applying? Thanks
-
Always worth applying! Tough for me to give a specific answer regarding upskilling. We hope everyone learns while they're here, and are much more active about that than merely hoping.

is Tokyo office not an engineering hub? What's the difference then?
-
We have several engineers who work in Tokyo, but we don't have e.g. full engineering teams in Tokyo which don't exist elsewhere, an engineering reporting structure for the office, and various other things we build hubs around.

We already have some remote engineering managers and will be making that more of a thing over the course of the year, in addition to product managers and technical program mangers.

"Remote in North America only" Uh-huh
-
We have remotes elsewhere but aren't in a position to scale up a full program for remotes outside of North America yet. We expect this to change as our other hubs get more mature and we start metabolizing what we learn from this new round of experiments.

I’m in the weird position where I’ll move to the US in the next six or so months, and I would love to be one of those. Should I wait until I’ve moved?
-
Speaking generally I'd recommend people express interest in jobs and get balls rolling earlier rather than later, as the worst thing that happens is one learns something now and applies it on the delayed timeframe and the best thing that happens is oh look job secured.
