Been thinking: Why don't we see worker-owned internet services? Why don't drivers pool together and hire some developers to build an Uber? Or a Doordash, etc. Sure, the quality will not be the same but many people will switch and eat the cost just to support the cause.

... make single-city on-demand services basically impossible in a world where multi-city services are legal, and the multi-city services need millions to light up a new city, where the co-op probably doesn’t have a dense network.

You can download an uber clone on github for free. In a city that has mostly owner-operators it's probably not much more than the cost of door ad magnets. Uber as a business is overvalued because you just can't take that big a chunk out of a drivers pocket over the long term.

The truth that no drivers want to admit is that it’s still a low margin business and without investor money there’s no subsidies that can accrue to drivers. Co-op and govt supported rideshare apps have been tried in a number of places.

Sidetracking Uber/Grab : a clearly visible sticker on every cab that is willing to do the same course than Grab for 1$ less than the price shown in the app
