Does that matter? I think it probably should. Even seen from the vastly improved position you'll be at at age 35 your writing at age 21 has value, if nothing else "I was capable of making investments in the future at age 21 and, by the way, look how much better I am now."

But publications (medium) give you an initial push especially early on. Writing tons without distribution isn’t helpful either. Although completely agree to pull them back to your platform or atleast transition over time.
-
This. Medium gives you a massive initial push but after that you need to transition off it.

This is a hill I will die on. A majority of my income has come from the blog I started in 2011. The email list I built with that blog is probably my most valuable asset. I’ve launched multiple 6 figure businesses from that blog and list. No one can stop its growth except me.
-
Sure, you may have done this with Medium. But, will you be able to in the future? You don’t know. I do. Build your own platform

I wish people felt the same way about source control. If/when Github implodes, a lot of code is going to be gone forever.

... and don't even get me started on the folks whose entire online identity is owned by Google because it's tied to a Gmail address.
