Bizarre discovery: Tesla has a fleet of haters who must search for tweets mentioning the company in order to reply to them. I've seen plenty of haters before, but never such proactive ones. Who are they? Car dealers? People who shorted the stock? Bots?

I think this is partially non-traditional minimum-sophistication short sellers, many of whom grew up on Bitcoin where the social reality of the ticker is the only reality, and partially the counter-cult of personality. I think people underestimate the second part.

They went from crypto to shorting public companies? Wouldn't crypto people find that very boring and old fashioned?

They probably would, except for product innovations at one broker. Robinhood, specifically, is acting as a bridge from crypto-as-gambling to traditional-finance-as-gambling.

As to the mechanism, I would bet on it being similar to other persistent swarms: there is specialization of labor, some folks who curate tweets to bash, some who provide memes/messaging, and others who provide the 7,326th repetition of the same. Non-Twitter coordination too, etc.

Partially right. $tslaq contains experts in many different fields. As for being minimum sophistication short sellers, it's really just a matter of reading the balance sheet. There's no magic or conspiracy to it, it's just a shitty company. Cool cars, though.

Not all short sellers have minimum sophistication. The market tends to teach that lesson pretty quickly, and Tesla has gone against short sellers for a long time.

Yeah, but hedge funds with $X0 million positions are, in the main, not spending multiple FTEs worth of effort talking their book on Twitter. The delta here is the legion of folks who are short $200 to (picks a number) $20k.

You're making an uneducated guess and I assure you it's incorrect. If you took the time you would see just how informed and sophisticated they are. Check out @orthereaboot @Polixenes13 @ElonBachman @InvResDynamics @TwainsMustache for insight. Thank me later.
