Many of the students were a big deal in high school and then realize that being valedictorian and say 3rd in state for Illinois on Math Team makes you maybe 20th percentile in your class.

Exactly. They are credentialing factories not skill acquisition factories, so people don’t just have imposter syndrome, they’re actually imposters in need of real skills.
