And a ridiculously large percentage of people attempt to interact with screenshots and get disappointed; there’s a giant hotspot in the heat map over the main button in them. (Laughed out loud first time I saw it.)

I've actively avoided products that don't have at least *some* kind of demonstration of their product available. It used to often hide the fact that the application was an awful thing stitched together in MS Access.

I always feel that one or two make a difference though - when I'm looking at a product "does it look like a not shit experience" is a gate function.

I really dislike sites that don’t show screenshots or the actual UI. Especially for business apps. So tired of cartoon sketches on landing pages and feature pages. Let me see the real product.

These are both good points which I fully appreciate, but I've actively avoided trying out an app because it didn't have any screenshots available. That little bit of extra friction to sign up so I can check it out myself is sometimes too much of a stretch.

The "hotspot on screenshots" anecdote is hilarious though, and I literally advised my team not to include screenshots in a "What's new" modal for an app just last week for exactly this reason.

Screenshots are helpful when a customer is deciding between a few different SaaS that are very similar in function but differ in feel like project management (Trello, Asana, Monday). I won't know for sure until I try but screenshots give a good idea of feel before trying.

Same here. Also, beyond just feel, they can help illustrate how a service approaches the problem. Marketing copy is generally too vague to really understand the differentiator. And I'm lead likely to trust it too.

Personally I hate SAAS products that don't offer easy access to screenshots or real world usage experience. It's so hard for me to imagine or evaluate with just marketing copy.

I agree. We currently go even a step further and do a quick demo video on the landing page at http://everybalance.com but I don't think it'll last. I think there are better ways to intro the app.
