I do not think "Tech is teh evil" does any favors for impressionable folks who are making career plans and don't have anyone in their life who can tell them "Tech actually has mostly scrupulous people producing a lot of value working on hard problems. Also pays very well."

With all due respect, it's your company, Stripe, that is *unscrupulously* funding violent white nationalists. I've been reaching out for months flagging up specific groups + evidence and your team refuses to respond. I consider this as good as evil.pic.twitter.com/fPv9iFAzNN

While I'm here, Stripe is processing payments for the following white nationalist/Islamophobic groups: 1. Schild en Vrienden 2. Act for America 3. Secure America Now 4. Generation Identity 5. Martin Sellner (Identitäre Bewegung) Not a single response from your team.

Reminds me of the people who offer "follow your dreams" as career advice. For people from a certain social class, whose parents / trust funds / private school friends are happy to support them, following dreams works great; for most of us, financial considerations are important.

Morals turn out to be quite an effective gatekeeping tactic

I often hear from people who work in tech-adjacent roles how much better it is to work with us than other industries. They say it is so much better. I do believe the negative stories about tech, but I think the median experience is much better in tech than many other industries.

Nice turnaround of the tired "tech people don't let their kids use devices" cliché
