what do you wish you knew after you reached your company's IC "career level"? how did you start thinking about where your career would go from there? what did you consider when thinking about paths like becoming a manager, staying IC, or other paths (what paths?)?

What I realized after 8yrs at Amazon was actually the opposite: That no matter how much you climb the ladder, you'd always be working on somebody else's terms. That's the main binary distinction between employee and business owner.

Strangely, I agree with both POV (patio) & (dva) Suspect which POV fits better for a person largely depends on (1) the personality of person & (2) current stage of growth they on. I adopt (patio) my whole life, but now find (dva) works better for me now.
