A thing I greatly, greatly under appreciated 5 years into my career is how entrepreneurship and employment are less of a binary than they look, particularly as one climbs the ladders in our industry, which involve a whole lot of Choose Your Own Adventure.

What I realized after 8yrs at Amazon was actually the opposite: That no matter how much you climb the ladder, you'd always be working on somebody else's terms. That's the main binary distinction between employee and business owner.
