I recently came across an article by a specialist journalist in a specialist publication claiming "X continues to happen". When I provided government statistics showing that X has not happened since roughly 2005, he responded "ok, but X was the long term trend before 2005".

The article in question continues to claim that X is still happening. The Internet definitely has a "fake news" problem, but unfortunately every indication is that we also have a massive "poor journalism" problem.
